Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Stakeholder Workshop Co-Develops Promising Solutions

June 25, 2026

On 9 April 2026, the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC), in partnership with the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), co-hosted a workshop on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) at the Fairway Hotel in Kampala.

The workshop convened 25 participants, including researchers, clinicians, policymakers, social protection experts, disability advocates, and a patient and carers with lived experience of AMR to discuss the impacts of AMR and develop interventions to reduce these impacts. The workshop served as an early co-development platform for a potential collaborative research proposal to reduce adverse cascading effects of AMR.

The workshop was led by Dr Susan Nayiga and Professor Clare Chandler. It builds on their long-term and ongoing fieldwork on the social realities of AMR and antibiotic use in Uganda, supported by funding from the British Academy and the Economic & Social Research Council. The workshop summary can be read here: BRIDGE AMR Proposal Development Workshop Summary
